Community of Christ, aka Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints
I began researching the Community of Christ in 1997. I was aware of its existence, but had always seen it referred to as a footnote to the much larger Utah-based Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. My vacation that year, as is usually the case, was a research tour of sites of historical significance to Mormonism. As I was going to be in Independence, MO for a few days, I intended to visit the headquarters offices of several denominations within the Latter Day Saint movement there. As I entered the temple complex for the then RLDS Church, I was amazed to find a complex religious tradition which showed few signs of ever being linked with Joseph Smith or the Book of Mormon. As I have made many good friends within the Community of Christ and as I have obtained a growing library of publications by, about, and against the group, my interest has grown.
